The Executive Director oversees the TBA’s 20-person staff operation in Nashville, Tennessee, and is responsible for directing planning, organization, staffing financial administration and implementation of TBA programs and activities. The Executive Director serves as advocate for the legal profession and represents the TBA with various legislative and judicial entities, all as more fully described in the Job Description.
In addition to having experience managing staffs and budgets, the successful candidate should have planning and leadership skills that exhibit gravitas and inspire staff and members alike. It is also important to possess experience or familiarity with current and emerging issues and concerns affecting practicing lawyers and the legal profession. In fulfilling its mission to advocate for the profession and for our system of justice, the TBA maintains relationships with the legislature and the courts. The Executive Director should be an adept communicator, comfortable with the responsibility of acting as a spokesperson and advocating for the TBA and its mission when called upon to do so.
The required knowledge, skill and abilities to satisfactorily perform the job duties are normally acquired through attainment of a law degree and a minimum of eight years of legal experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
