The Associate General Counsel, Data Governance and Protection, position will be supporting a rapidly growing business by partnering with business and technology teams to develop and lead our data governance efforts to protect the company’s enterprise-wide data assets. This is an exciting, new position that represents an excellent opportunity to make substantial contributions to a dynamic and thriving business. The position reports to the General Counsel.
As Associate General Counsel, Data Governance and Protection, you will:
- Develop and manage a data governance model and process to protect the company’s enterprise-wide data assets
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive data catalog and inventory to ensure data use compliance, both internally and externally
- Develop and lead a data protection program, which will include driving awareness of data protection as well as compliance efforts, audits and monitoring activities related to data use
- Provide legal advice on internal and external product and feature development around data use
- Draft, negotiate and advise on contracts related to data sharing and data licensing
What we’re looking for:
- Licensed to practice law in good standing in at least one state (Virginia preferred) and/or eligible to be admitted under a Virginia Corporate Counsel Certificate
- At least five years of related legal experience, including experience with data licensing
- Undergraduate degree in information technology, computer science, engineering or accounting is highly desirable
- Proficiency in Excel
- Detail-oriented, superior organizational skills and passionate about technology and data
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience creating strong, collaborative relationships with internal business and technology partners and stakeholders
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
